How the Chesterton House Foundation is Supporting Headway

Life after a brain injury can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, people can overcome obstacles and rediscover joy. Headway Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland is the only specialist provider in the area supporting people recovering from brain injuries and strokes. The Chesterton House Foundation is proud to stand alongside them in their mission to help survivors regain independence and live fulfilling lives.

About Headway Leicester

Headway Leicester LogoFounded in 1990, Headway has more than 30 years’ experience improving life after brain injury. They support adults aged 18–65, along with their families and carers, through a wide range of services, including Day Services, city- and county-wide outreach, and a digital day service for remote support.

Members benefit from neuro-occupational therapy, neuro-physiotherapy, one-to-one counselling, and peer support, all delivered by a skilled team of staff and volunteers under the guidance of an experienced board of trustees.

Our £1,000 Donation Expands Day Services

Our recent £1,000 donation will help Headway expand their Day Services, giving more people access to inclusive and engaging activities such as archery, walking cricket, pottery, and theatre trips. These activities help rebuild confidence, improve physical and mental wellbeing, and encourage members to embrace new experiences. By doing so, Headway fosters connection and community, which are both vital for recovery.

Building on Previous Support

This is not the first time we’ve supported Headway Leicester. Last year, our funding helped deliver a memorable ‘Animal Magic’ day, where participants enjoyed sensory activities that brought joy, encouraged interaction, and highlighted the therapeutic power of shared experiences.

Seeing first-hand the positive impact of these events has reinforced for us just how important Headway’s services are to brain injury survivors and their families.

A Vital Role in Our Community

As the only organisation of its kind in Leicestershire, Rutland, and Leicester, Headway Leicester’s role in the community cannot be overstated. Their services provide a lifeline for those who might otherwise feel isolated or disconnected, offering opportunities for social engagement, skill development, and hope for the future.

Looking Ahead

As Headway Leicester continues to grow, we’re honoured to contribute to their vision. The expansion of their Day Services will create new opportunities for people affected by brain injury or stroke to build skills, form meaningful relationships, and reconnect with life.
