How the Chesterton House Foundation is supporting Leicester Cobras

Wheelchair basketball has had a strong year, with Team England Women taking gold and Team England Men taking silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This just goes to show that sport can be transformative when the right opportunities are there. It’s also why we’re delighted to share that the Chesterton House Foundation recently awarded a grant of £1,000 to Leicester Cobras Wheelchair Basketball Charity.

A supportive and welcoming club

Set up in 1992, Leicester Cobras is a longstanding sports charity based in Leicester city centre, offering wheelchair basketball to adults and young people aged 14 and over. The club welcomes people of all abilities, genders and backgrounds, creating a supportive space to meet others and pursue a shared passion for sport.

Sessions run in Leicester city centre, with weekly training and the opportunity to compete in the British Wheelchair Basketball National League and Women’s League. There are also plenty of social opportunities for players, which matters for a community where isolation can be a real challenge.

Keeping sessions accessible

Like many local sports organisations, Leicester Cobras faces rising running costs and league fees. The Foundation’s grant will help cover these essential running costs, keeping sessions accessible and affordable for everyone who takes part.

Grassroots clubs like Leicester Cobras are exactly where success starts, giving the next generation of players somewhere to train and compete.
