How our Foundation is Supporting Broomleys Cricket Club’s Journey to Success

The Chesterton House Foundation is proud to support Broomleys Cricket Club in Coalville, Leicestershire, with a £1,000 grant to help them purchase equipment that will enable their teams to progress further in competitions.

A Club on the Rise

Broomleys Cricket Club has gone from strength to strength in recent years, achieving success both on and off the field. With thriving men’s, women’s, and junior teams, the club has worked hard to make cricket more inclusive and accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Their commitment to high standards was recently recognised with the prestigious ECB Clubmark Accreditation, reflecting their dedication to being a well-run, sustainable, and safe club.

Helping the Club Meet New Challenges

After successive promotions, the First Team now plays in Division 1 of the Leicester and Rutland Cricket League. Higher-level competition brings stricter requirements, including the need for a second cricket sight screen to enhance playing conditions. In leagues like this, having two sight screens – one at each end of the pitch – is both a league requirement and essential for player performance and safety. Thanks to the Chesterton House Foundation grant, Broomleys Cricket Club can invest in this vital equipment.

Why Sight Screens Matter

A cricket sight screen is a large, mobile screen placed just outside the playing boundary behind each wicket. Its purpose is to provide a solid, contrasting background so batters can see the ball clearly—a crucial factor when balls can travel at speeds exceeding 80–90 mph. White screens are used with red or pink balls, and black screens for matches with white balls, ensuring visibility in all conditions. By blocking distractions such as crowds, trees, or movement around the boundary, sight screens help batters judge line, length, and speed accurately, supporting both performance and safety.

With this grant, Broomleys Cricket Club will meet league requirements while providing all players—from juniors to women’s teams—a fair, professional, and safe playing experience. The addition of a second sight screen for the 2025 season will enable the club to continue its remarkable progress, both on and off the field, supporting the sporting ambitions of its diverse membership.

Supporting Sport and Community

Local sports clubs like Broomleys Cricket Club play a vital role in promoting health, wellbeing, and community spirit. By supporting the club, the Chesterton House Foundation helps sustain an organisation that benefits players, coaches, and supporters alike, inspiring the next generation of cricketers.

We wish Broomleys Cricket Club every success in the upcoming season!
