How the Chesterton House Foundation is Supporting Chroma Foodbank

For many people, a trip to collect a food parcel can feel like a low point in a difficult week. At Chroma Foodbank in Leicester, guests are met with something warmer than that: a proper welcome, a cup of tea, and time for a real conversation.

The Chesterton House Foundation has awarded Chroma Foodbank a £1,000 grant, which will go directly towards essential food for parcels handed out to guests each week.

More than a food parcel

Chroma opens three times a week, offering a food parcel, hygiene essentials, and fresh food to guests who need it. Alongside the practical support, there’s always a cup of tea or coffee on offer, and a chance to sit and talk. Once a month, guests can get a free haircut. Every few months, there’s a special brunch or dinner, giving people something to look forward to and a reason to come together.

These extras aren’t incidental. Many of Chroma’s guests experience real isolation, and the team has built these moments of connection deliberately, alongside the food support, to help combat it.

Chroma is also a CAP (Christians Against Poverty) debt centre, helping people work through financial debt with proper, ongoing support.

Why we chose to support Chroma

The Foundation looks for organisations doing quietly effective work in our local community, where funding makes a direct and visible difference. Chroma has been running for a number of years, and the warmth behind their work — treating every guest as a person first, not just someone in need — is exactly the kind of approach we want to back.
