How the Chesterton House Foundation is Supporting Incredible Edible

At Incredible Edible Loughborough, the belief is simple: access to fresh, healthy food should be a right, not a luxury. This initiative brings that idea to life by transforming overlooked spaces into edible gardens. Local people can come together, learn how to grow food, and take home fresh produce—all while building stronger connections with their neighbours.

In 2024, the Chesterton House Foundation supported the purchase of materials for raised beds in the Corner Garden at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Charles Street. You can watch a video interview with Julian from Incredible Edible [here]. The beds have flourished, producing vegetables, herbs, and fruit for the community. This success shows just how much can grow from simple, community-driven ideas.

Continued Support for the Corner Garden

Building on this success, the Foundation gave a further £125 to complete the Corner Garden with an additional raised bed. The new bed extended the existing row and used compost already donated and stored on-site. It created the perfect space for planting seasonal vegetables.

The work was carried out by Glebe Work Skills, a branch of Glebe House that supports people with learning difficulties and autism. This meant two local charities benefited from one project.

Engaging and Educating the Community

The garden continues to provide free produce to local residents, encouraging healthier eating and sharing vital skills. Many people in the area had little experience of growing food or preparing fresh vegetables, which contributes to wider health issues such as obesity. Open Morning events and leaflets delivered to hundreds of nearby homes have drawn dozens of people keen to learn and join in. The Corner Garden has quickly become a source of pride and a cherished local space.

The Growing Impact

The impact is clear: people are coming together, learning about sustainable living, and enjoying the rewards of homegrown produce. The new raised bed has expanded the garden’s reach and enriched the lives of even more Loughborough residents.

Ongoing Commitment

We’re proud to support Incredible Edible Loughborough in their mission to make healthy, homegrown food accessible to all. Through the Chesterton House Foundation, we look forward to seeing the Corner Garden thrive—bringing more fresh food, learning opportunities, and stronger community connections to the people of Loughborough for years to come.
