How the Chesterton House Foundation is Supporting Starlight Youth Theatre

At the Chesterton House Foundation, we’re proud to support projects that help young people build confidence, creativity, and life skills. That’s why we’re delighted to back Starlight Youth Theatre, a Loughborough-based amateur musical theatre group for 10–18 year-olds.

Beyond performing on stage, the theatre nurtures performance skills, creativity, and confidence both on stage and in life. Many current and former members have gone on to attend performing arts schools locally and nationally, work in the entertainment industry, join adult amateur theatre groups, and one has even made their West End debut.

Enhancing Performances with Our Grant

Until now, the group has relied on borrowed or rented equipment, limiting both consistency and access for performers. A £1,000 grant from the Chesterton House Foundation has enabled Starlight to purchase two additional wireless microphones. This investment ensures every participant can be heard on stage, supports technical skill development, and makes the group more self-sufficient and sustainable.

The Impact of Additional Microphones

With the new microphones, Starlight can support larger casts, deliver clear vocals, and provide a more professional experience for both performers and audiences. Technical volunteers also gain hands-on experience in live audio setup, developing skills that can benefit their future in performing arts or technical fields.

Strengthening Community and Inclusion

Starlight is committed to inclusion and affordable access, creating a safe, welcoming space where young people can explore creativity, build confidence, and learn teamwork. The new microphones made their debut in the production of Les Misérables at Rawlins Academy at the end of 2024, enhancing both the performance quality and the experience for all involved.

We’re proud to support Starlight Youth Theatre as they continue to nurture creativity, skill, and confidence in young people, while enriching the cultural life of the area.

If you’d like to get involved or go along to see one of their shows, you can find out more on their website here.
