How the Chesterton House Foundation is supporting Coats4Kids

No child should have to face the winter cold without a warm coat. That’s the simple but powerful aim of the Rotary Clubs in Charnwood’s Coats4Kids project. Working with local schools, the initiative provides brand-new, high-quality coats to disadvantaged primary pupils—helping them stay warm, healthy, and confident through the colder months.

Our Contribution

At just £25 each, every coat is delivered directly to families who need them most. Because the Rotary team is entirely volunteer led, every penny raised goes straight towards the coats themselves—making the programme simple, transparent, and highly effective.

A Growing Impact

The Coats4Kids project has seen rapid growth in recent years. In 2023/24, the team delivered just 20 coats. By 2024/25, that number had risen to almost 200. This year, the aim is to double that again, bringing warmth and comfort to hundreds more children. Deliveries will begin early in the Christmas term, so no child has to face the cold without suitable clothing.

Why It Matters

A good coat is about more than warmth. It helps children feel included, valued, and ready to join in school life without worry or stigma. With strong links to local schools, Coats4Kids identifies families in genuine need and offers practical support when it matters most – showing the real difference that kindness and collaboration can make.

Looking Ahead

It’s a powerful reminder that small, practical actions—like providing something as simple as a coat—can make a big difference to wellbeing and confidence. Together with local partners, we can make sure more children in Charnwood are ready to face the winter with a smile.
